RU pays homage to Prof Hasan Azizul Haque

RAJSHAHI, – Rajshahi University (RU) authority has paid rich tribute to Hasan Azizul Haque commemorating his laudable contribution to Bengali literature.

Noted writer Hasan Azizul Haque, who joined the department of philosophy in Rajshahi University in 1973 and went to retirement in 2004, passed away at his residence in Rajshahi city on November 15 last. Eminent writer Prof Hasan Azizul Huq was laid to eternal rest on the RU campus.

RU authority held a commemoration meeting at its senate building today giving an illustration of the life and literary works of the late teacher.

Vice-chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar addressed the meeting as the chief guest, while Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Chowdhury Jakaria and Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam spoke as special guests with philosophy department chairman Prof Shamima Akter in the chair.

Known as one of the authors who marked the changes in Bangla literature in the 60s, Azizul had worked as the Bangabandhu Chair at Dhaka University, the meeting was told.

Throughout over 50 years of his remarkable and prestigious literary career, Azizul has published short stories illustrating a uniquely exquisite form of literary language.

Winner of the highest civilian awards, Swadhinata Padak and Ekushey Padak, the writer was honoured with Ananda Puroshkar in West Bengal.

Among his works, storybooks ‘Samudrer Swapna Sheeter Aranya, ‘Atmoja O Ekti Karobi Gachh’ and ‘Jibon Ghoshe Agun’, and novels ‘Brittayon’, ‘Agunpakhi’ and ‘Shiuli’ are notable. In 2009, Assam University conferred the Doctor of Literature degree on Hasan Azizul for his remarkable contribution to Bangla literature.
