Covid-19 recovery crosses 53,800 in Rangpur

RANGPUR,  – The number of recovery cases from Covid-19 has crossed the 53,800 mark in the division where the pandemic situation continues improving almost during the last four months. “The number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 53,810 with the recovery of 12 more during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam told BSS.

The average recovery rate of COVID-19 patients currently stands at 96.61 percent in the division. The 53,810 recovered patients include 11,859 of Rangpur, 3,718 of Panchagarh, 4,369 of Nilphamari, 2,625 of Lalmonirhat, 4,527 of Kurigram, 7,409 of Thakurgaon, 14,504 of Dinajpur and 4,799 of Gaibandha districts. “Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 55,699 as three fresh cases were diagnosed after testing 175 new samples at the positivity rate of 1.71 percent on Wednesday in the division,” he said.

Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 3.87 percent on Tuesday, 3.24 percent on Monday, 1.33 on Sunday, 2.46 percent on Saturday and 3.00 percent on Friday last in the division. The district-wise break up of total 55,699 patients include 12,543 of Rangpur, 3,832 Panchagarh, 4,463 of Nilphamari, 2,758 of Lalmonirhat, 4,646 of Kurigram, 7,695 of Thakurgaon, 14,886 of Dinajpur and 4,876 of Gaibandha. Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, a total of 3,05,442 collected samples were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 55,699 were found positive with an average infection rate of 18.24 percent in the division.

On the other hand, the total number of fatalities remained steady at 1,249 as no new death was reported during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in the division. The district-wise break up of the 1,249 fatalities stands at 293 in Rangpur, 81 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 69 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in Kurigram, 255 in Thakurgaon, 330 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha.

The average death rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division. Among the total 55,699 Covid-19 patients, 24 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including seven at ICU and four at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 53,810 patients and 1,249 deaths while 616 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 78,33,255, and among them, 50,79,498 got the second dose of the jab till Wednesday in the division,” Dr Islam said. Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi urged all to abide by the health directives to prevent any probable wave of the deadly Covid-19 virus.
