Average Covid-19 positivity 18.57pc in Rangpur division

RANGPUR,  – The average Covid-19 positivity rate currently stands at 18.45 percent in Rangpur division where 55,585 patients were diagnosed after testing 3,01,265 samples since the beginning of the pandemic. “The number of Covid-19 cases rose to 55,585 with diagnosis of three new patients after testing 128 samples at the positivity rate of 2.34 percent on Saturday,” said Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam.

The pandemic situation continues improving consistently during the last more than three months in the division amid declining passivity and casualty rates and rising recovery rate. Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 2.86 percent on Friday, 1.43 percent on Thursday, 3.54 percent on Wednesday, 1.45 percent on Tuesday, 2.59 percent on Monday and 1.84 percent on Sunday last in the division “The district-wise break up of total 55,585 patients include 12,514 of Rangpur, 3,826 Panchagarh, 4,460 of Nilphamari, 2,750 of Lalmonirhat, 4,646 of Kurigram, 7,671 of Thakurgaon, 14,848 of Dinajpur and 4,870 of Gaibandha in the division,” he said.

Meanwhile, no Covid-19 patient died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in the division where the total number of casualties remained steady at 1,245. The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division. The district-wise breakup of the 1,245 fatalities stands at 293 in Rangpur, 81 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 68 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in Kurigram, 254 in Thakurgaon, 328 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha districts of the division. Meanwhile, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 53,488 with the recovery of 11 more patients on Saturday raising the average recovery rate to 96.23 percent in the division.

The 53,488 recovered patients include 11,645 of Rangpur, 3,696 Panchagarh, 4,365 Nilphamari, 2,625 Lalmonirhat, 4,527 Kurigram, 7,372 Thakurgaon, 14,463 in Dinajpur and 4,795 Gaibandha districts in the division. Among the 55,585 patients, 38 are under treatments at isolation units, including nine critical patients at ICU beds and seven at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 53,488 patients and 1,245 deaths while 814 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid- 19 vaccine rose to 75,16,021, and among them, 39,63,144 got the second dose of the jabs till Saturday in the division,” Dr Islam added. Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said the Covid-19 situation is improving in recent months in the division. “However, everyone should sincerely abide by the health directives to prevent spread of the newly detected Omicron variant of the deadly virus during the winter season,” he said.
