Rangpur records no Covid death in last 24 hours

RANGPUR,  – No death due to Covid-19 was recorded during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in Rangpur division where the pandemic situation continues improving during the last more than two and a half months. Health officials said the total number of Covid-19 casualties remained steady at 1,243 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 1,243 fatalities stands at 293 in Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 68 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in Kurigram, 254 in Thakurgaon, 327 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha of the division. “The average fatality rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division,” said Acting Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 55,394 as six new patients were diagnosed after testing 185 samples of Rangpur division at the daily positivity rate of 3.24 percent on Friday. Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 2.37 percent on Thursday, 2.62 percent on Wednesday, 3.81 percent on Tuesday, 4.33 percent on Monday and 2.26 percent on Sunday last in the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 55,394 patients include 12,474 of Rangpur, 3,810 Panchagarh, 4,451 of Nilphamari, 2,742 of Lalmonirhat, 4,645 of Kurigram, 7,632 of Thakurgaon, 14,777 of Dinajpur and 4,863 of Gaibandha in the division,” he said. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 2,94,859 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 55,394 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 18.79 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 53,125 with recovery of 14 more infected patients on Friday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 95.90 percent. The 53,125 recovered patients include 11,467 of Rangpur, 3,677 Panchagarh, 4,351 Nilphamari, 2,625 Lalmonirhat, 4,527 Kurigram, 7,310 Thakurgaon, 14,379 in Dinajpur and 4,789 Gaibandha districts in the division. Among the 55,300 patients, 49 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including six critical patients at ICU beds and nine at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 53,125 patients and 1,243 deaths while 977 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid- 19 vaccine rose to 48,90,344, and among them, 30,91,048 got the second dose of the jab till Friday in the division,” he said. Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed satisfaction over the improving Covid-19 situation in Rangpur division. “However, everyone should remain aware and properly abide by the health directives, hygiene rules, wear masks and maintain physical distance to prevent further spread of the deadly virus,” he said.
