DHAKA,  – The High Court (HC) today ordered judicial probe into the recent incidents of communal violence in six districts of the country.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.

The court also issued a rule, asking authorities concerned to explain as to why it shall not declare as illegal the ‘inaction’ of local administration in ensuring security of the victims.

The court asked chief judicial magistrates of Rangpur, Cumilla, Chattagram, Feni, Chandpur and Noakhali to probe the incidents of communal violence within next two months and submit reports.

Supreme Court lawyer Anup Kumar Saha and Mintu Chandra Das filed the writ on October 21, pleading for High Court’s direction for judicial probe into the incidents of communal attacks on members of Hindu community, their houses and temples.

The writ also pleaded for the court’s direction on the security of Hindu community, rehabilitating the victims, compensating them, among other matters.

Nineteen officials including home secretary, BTRC chairman and deputy commissioners of the six districts were made respondents in the writ.
