PM to open Development Fair tomorrow

DHAKA – The 4th Development Fair will begin at the national, district and upazila levels across the country tomorrow aimed at showcasing the development activities of the government.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the three-day fair across the country, including the national one in the capital, through videoconferencing from her official residence, Ganabhaban, here at 10 am tomorrow,” said Dhaka Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abu Saleh Mohammed Ferdous Khan at a press conference at the International Trade Fair ground at Agargaon here.

With the theme ‘Indomitable Bangladesh in Advancement of Development’, the fair will showcase the government’s development activities and achievements made in the last 10 years, he said.

In the capital, the national level fair will be held at the International Trade Fair ground in Agargaon where 330 stalls, including 20 of Education Ministry, 19 of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry, 16 of Home Affairs Ministry, 14 of Agriculture Ministry, 10 of Health and Family Welfare Ministry and nine of Road Transport and Bridge Ministry, will be set up, the DC added.

Home Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will address the inaugural function of the national level fair at 9 am tomorrow, he said, adding that before the inauguration, a procession will be brought out from the fair ground at 8.45 am.

Ferdous said that the highest security measures have been taken to make the fairground safe for all visitors.

During the fair, special focus will be given on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 10 special initiatives, international recognitions and successes, Vision-2021 and 2041, ICT development, Bangabandhu Satellite, Padma Bridge project and Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. The country’s investment potentials will also be highlighted.

The three-day fair will also include seminars, branding the country’s districts, providing different services to the citizens and cultural functions.

A seminar titled ‘Bangabandhu’s Development Philosophy and Today’s Bangladesh’ will be held on the first day of the fair at 5 pm while another seminar titled ‘Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 10 Special Initiatives and Sustainable Development Goals’ will be held on the second day of the fair on October 5 at the same time.

Besides, a seminar titled ‘Literate Nation, Prosperous Country – Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh’ will be held on the last day of the fair on October 6 at 10 am.

Cultural functions will be held in the fairground in the evening everyday where folk singers and popular artistes will perform.

The fair will remain open for all from 10 am to 9 pm every day.

The three-day fair will end on October 6.
