Sweden will help Bangladesh fight climate change: envoy

DHAKA,  – Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Berg von Linde today said Sweden will help Bangladesh on issues related to renewable energy, greenhouse gas emission reduction, salinity intrusion, development activities and climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.

She also said Sweden will double its climate finance by 2025, an official release said. The Swedish Ambassador expressed her firm commitment to work together on these issues at a meeting held at the Environment Ministry here with Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin in the chair.

During the discussion, Secretary of the ministry Md Mostafa Kamal, Additional Secretary(Admin) Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary (Development) Ahmed Shamim Al Razi and Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik were present.

They also discussed cooperation with Bangladesh in some other areas including ecosystem management, sustainable environment, conservation of biodiversity and tackling the effects of climate change in Bangladesh. The meeting identified areas of cooperation between the two countries and emphasised on moving forward together in the future.

The Environment Minister said his ministry has submitted the enhanced NDC, finalising NAP, Bangabandhu Climate Prosperity Plan. He said Bangladesh is doing its best to make COP25 a success. Bangladesh will raise its voice to provide 100 billion dollar to developing countries annually by the rich countries, he added.
