Rain delays start of 2nd Test between South Africa and Australia

Rain delayed the start of play after Australia won the toss and decided to bowl in the second Test against South Africa at St George's Park on Sunday.

Play eventually got under way at noon, two hours after the scheduled start, with 75 overs due to be bowled in the day. South Africa reached 11-0 off 5.3 overs before the rain returned and lunch was taken.

With overcast conditions and a green-tinged pitch likely to help seam bowling, Australia named an all-pace attack. Scott Boland replaced off-spinner Nathan Lyon in the only change from the team that won the first Test in Durban by 214 runs.

South Africa made three changes, with fast bowler Kagiso Rabada returning after recovering from a hamstring injury. He replaced left-arm spin bowler Keshav Maharaj.

Batsmen Marques Ackerman and Matthew Breetzke replaced Tristan Stubbs and Kyle Verreynne with Ryan Rickelton taking over from Verreynne as wicketkeeper.

The left-handed Ackerman opened the batting with Aiden Markram on his international debut, with Rickelton moving from opener to the middle order.

Rain is predicted to be a factor during the first two days but the weather is expected to clear later in the match.

Teams:

South Africa: Temba Bavuma (captain), Aiden Markram, Marques Ackerman, David Bedingham, Matthew Breetzke, Ryan Rickelton (wkt), Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, Simon Harmer, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje

Australia: Pat Cummins (captain), Nic Maddinson, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey (wkt), Beau Webster, Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland, Josh Hazlewood
