Planning and willpower can make an area clean, green: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today said proper planning and willpower can make an area clean, green and environment-friendly, citing the visible changes in Aminbazar over the past two months is an example.

“Alongside government initiatives, local residents must take responsibility for preserving the environment. With their cooperation, problems related to environmental pollution and waste management can gradually be resolved,” he said.

The Prime Minister said this after inaugurating a greening and beautification programme by planting saplings along the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Aminbazar this afternoon.

Recalling the condition of Aminbazar about two months ago, Tarique Rahman said the area had undergone significant changes, making it more attractive and clean for local residents.

He thanked Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam and concerned officials and employees of Local Government Ministry for their sincere efforts in implementing the initiative.

The Prime Minister said the government has taken steps to improve the area, but maintaining its cleanliness and beauty would also require active participation from local residents.
He asked the Dhaka DC to expand greening activities to other areas under Dhaka district.

Tarique Rahman suggested holding discussions with the owners of mills and factories on both sides of the Aricha highway to assign them with the task for maintaining cleanliness and natural beauty of their area.

He also called for preparing plans in consultation with the relevant authorities to develop and beautify places where waste and rubbish still accumulate.

Proper implementation of these initiatives would further enhance the beauty of Aminbazar and its surrounding areas, reducing environmental pollution and ensuring clean and healthy environment, he said.

The Prime Minister also called on the local parliament members to extend their cooperation in this drive, expressing hope that coordinated efforts by public representatives and the district administration would gradually resolve waste management and environmental problems.

“Everyone must work together so that people can breathe freely in a clean environment and enjoy the beauty of nature,” he said.

Tarique Rahman said the Dhaka DC has set an example for other districts to take initiatives for environmental improvement and beautification of their areas.
