Int’l Conference begins at DU

A two-day long China, South and Southeast Asian Conference on ‘Environmental and Ecological Risk Management’ has begun on Friday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the Confucius Institute of DU and Yunnan University, China have jointly organized this event, says a press release.
Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal presided over the inaugural function while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of DU Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad addressed it as special guest. Dean of the Institute of International Rivers and Eco-security of Yunnan University, China Prof. Dr. HU Jinming and some other foreign delegates also addressed it.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs on Environmental and Ecological Risk Management by the regional and international experts. He said every country has obligation to make the world free from environmental risk and hazard. He called upon the researchers, academicians and professionals to work together to develop scientific research in this regard.
Earlier, A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences of Dhaka University and the Institute of International Rivers and Eco-security of Yunnan. University was signed today September 28, 2018 in the inaugural session. According to the MoU, the two universities will exchange teachers and students as well as conduct joint research activities. Besides, Yunnan University authorities will provide scholarship for DU students for higher study in China.
It may be mentioned that academicians and researchers from Bangladesh, China, Nepal and Myanmar are participating in the conference.
