Katrina breaks silence on trolling: 'Be your own biggest cheerleader'

Actor Katrina Kaif recently spoke about the importance of protecting one’s self-worth from the constant stream of opinions on social media, emphasising that confidence comes from accepting yourself rather than trying to please everyone. Following her appearance at an event, the actor reflected on how allowing criticism to dictate personal choices can hold people back from moving forward in life.

During an event in the UK to celebrate her cosmetic brand’s first anniversary, Katrina said it was important not to let online narratives influence how people perceive their own value, especially in a world where everyone seems to have an opinion.

“I think we really need to be careful of letting the narrative on social media affect our self-worth and inner value because there are so many opinions out there. If you start catering to all of them, it really hampers your ability to make choices for yourself,” she said.

Reflecting on how criticism can affect a person’s decisions, the 43-year-old actor added that constantly reacting to what others say could leave one feeling unable to move ahead. She explained that if she allowed every critique or comment to dictate her actions, she might have found it difficult to progress in life.

“There are times when the world is going to celebrate you, and other times you have to really be your own biggest cheerleader,” the actor said.

The Tiger Zinda Hai actor also spoke about the importance of accepting oneself through different phases of life, acknowledging that confidence and self-perception are not always constant. There may be days when people feel they are at their best, while at other times, they may struggle to feel good about themselves.

She emphasised that it was important to remain true to who you are in the present moment, while understanding that personal growth is an ongoing process.

The actor added that people should learn to take life’s ups and downs in their stride instead of putting too much pressure on themselves. For Katrina, accepting that one’s feelings and circumstances can change is part of learning to be comfortable with oneself.

Her remarks came a month after Katrina faced scrutiny on social media following her appearance with husband Vicky Kaushal at the Ambani family’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. The actor, who recently embraced motherhood, was subjected to online comments about her postpartum appearance after pictures and videos from the event surfaced.

The criticism also sparked conversations about the scrutiny women face over their bodies, particularly after childbirth, and the unrealistic expectations placed on celebrities. Several stars, including Salman Khan, came out in support of Katrina.

During an episode of Bigg Boss 20’s Weekend Ka Vaar, the superstar aimed at the culture of constantly picking apart celebrities over their bodies, age, appearance and personal lives, with even their journey into parenthood becoming a target for online trolls. Among the issues he addressed was the practice of body-shaming women for gaining weight after pregnancy, amid the ongoing buzz around his Bharat co-star Katrina being criticised for her postpartum appearance.

He addressed some and said, “Moti ho gayi hai” (She has become fat). An older actor is dismissed with “Buddha ho gaya hai” (He has become old). These comments, he suggested, are treated as harmless observations when, in reality, they are often deeply personal.

Katrina Kaif married Vicky Kaushal in 2021 and welcomed son Vihaan in 2025.
