Anonna Fatima: Beyond the crown, a voice for change

SHEHUB MUNAWAR WAHID

For Anonna Fatima, a beauty crown represents far more than glamour. It is a platform from which she hopes to amplify a message of confidence, independence and opportunity for young women.

Now representing Bangladesh at the Miss Grand International 2026 pageant, Anonna has brought with her experience accumulated over several years in modelling, fashion and public presentation. The official Miss Grand International profile describes her as a model, anchor and actress with an academic background in fashion design, as well as experience in marketing.

Her journey on the international pageant circuit, however, began before her current appearance on the Miss Grand stage. In 2023, she represented Bangladesh at Miss Intercontinental 2023, competing alongside contestants from more than 70 countries. Contemporary coverage identified Anonna as Bangladesh’s representative and reported that she had already established herself in modelling before entering the competition.

From fashion student to pageant contender

Anonna’s connection with fashion is rooted in formal study as well as professional experience. In an interview ahead of the 2023 Miss Intercontinental competition, she said she had been involved in modelling since 2020 and had initially participated in the Miss Universe pageant. She later pursued fashion design and entered the Miss Intercontinental Bangladesh competition, eventually earning the opportunity to represent the country internationally.

Her appearance at Miss Intercontinental 2023 placed her among the Asian representatives competing in Egypt. Pageant coverage from the event featured her during the sash ceremony and interview segments as Bangladesh’s representative.

That experience has since become part of a broader professional trajectory encompassing modelling, presentation, fashion and pageantry.

Returning to the international stage

In 2026, Anonna has returned to international competition as Miss Grand Bangladesh 2026. The Miss Grand International organisation currently lists her as Bangladesh’s representative and says she is participating in the 2026 edition, which is being held in Thailand.

Her preparation for the competition reflects a more developed sense of what she wants the pageant platform to represent.

On her official Miss Grand profile, Anonna says she sees pageantry not simply as a contest of physical appearance but as a process that tests confidence, discipline, communication and character. She also describes it as an opportunity to present a broader image of Bangladesh and Bangladeshi women to an international audience.

Beyond the crown

One of the central themes of Anonna’s current pageant journey is Project Shakti, an initiative she says focuses on empowering girls and young people through skills, confidence and opportunities for greater independence.

For Anonna, empowerment is closely connected to education, economic independence and the ability of women to shape their own identities. Her stated ambition is to use the visibility offered by pageantry to encourage young women to take greater ownership of their bodies, identities, careers and futures.

That emphasis marks a significant evolution from viewing a pageant solely through the lens of competition. Her current profile places equal emphasis on what happens beyond the stage, particularly how visibility can be converted into advocacy and social engagement.

A message of peace

Anonna has also adopted the “Stop the War and Violence” theme associated with Miss Grand International. On her official profile, she frames peace as extending beyond conventional armed conflict, arguing that violence can also manifest in homes, schools and communities.

Her message is straightforward: strength, in her view, should not be measured by the capacity to inflict harm but by the courage to choose dialogue, empathy and peace.

For a representative of Bangladesh, a country whose own modern history has been shaped by war, displacement and struggles for self-determination, that message gives her pageant appearance a wider cultural context—while remaining rooted in her personal advocacy.

Beauty, brand and business

Anonna’s ambitions also extend beyond modelling and pageantry. Her Miss Grand profile describes four interconnected areas of her development: body, brand, beauty and business. Her athletic background, fashion training, modelling experience and work in marketing have each contributed to that outlook.

She has spoken of wanting to build a career in which beauty creates opportunities, personal branding carries a sense of purpose and business contributes to independence. She has also expressed an interest in developing her own business ventures and exploring opportunities in the entertainment industry.

That combination gives her pageant journey a distinctly entrepreneurial dimension.

Representing a changing Bangladesh

Anonna’s international journey, from Miss Intercontinental Bangladesh 2023 to Miss Grand Bangladesh 2026, also mirrors the changing ambitions of Bangladesh’s pageant representatives.

Rather than presenting the crown simply as an endpoint, she describes it as a means of gaining a larger audience and using that visibility for a purpose.

As she competes on the Miss Grand International stage, Anonna Fatima is therefore carrying more than a national sash. She is presenting a narrative of a Bangladeshi woman shaped by fashion, performance, discipline and ambition, and seeking to turn international visibility into a platform for empowerment.
