The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to begin the local government elections with Union Parishad polls in November, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud said here today.
“We are working with a target to hold the local government elections from November,” he told Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
He said the commission has already started preparations targeting November in this regard.
“The election season is from November to April. This is considered an appropriate period for holding the elections. However, festivals such as Puja, Eid and Ramadan will have to be taken into consideration during the announcement of the election schedule,” said the election commissioner.
Masud further said the commission has taken a policy decision to hold the Union Parishad elections first.
