Shakir’s untimely demise

On Friday, August 6, Shakir Ahmed, a talented young journalist from Kulaura, breathed his last. He was just 32 years old. He suffered a heart attack. His untimely death has cast a shadow of mourning over Kulaura.

His funeral prayers held at Baramchal High School ground at 2.15 pm on Saturday, family sources said. Earlier on Friday (August 8) at around 8:30 pm, he was taken to Kulaura Upazila Health Complex when he felt chest pain.

From there he was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead at 9.40 pm. Shakir is the son of late Abdus Shahid of Mollabari in Madhabpur village of Baramchal union of Kulaura upazila. At the time of his death, Shakir left behind a son, wife, mother, brothers and sisters and many admirers.

He was the executive member of Press Club Kulaura and the organizing secretary of Kulaura Journalists Association till his death. Shakir started his journalism career in Kulaura about a decade ago. He has served as the correspondent of Daily Amader Orthoniti, Daily Jagoran, Daily Desh, Daily Sylhet Surma Kulaura and Border Post Staff Reporter at different times.

Prior to his death, he was the Moulvibazar correspondent of the daily Naya Shatabdi, the Kulaura correspondent of Bangladesh Today, the staff reporter of the daily Jugveri and Sylhet View (Kulaura) and the news editor of Kulaura Times TV.
