Awareness Program on Bangla QR held at Dhaka University

To support the vision of building a Cashless and Smart Bangladesh, an awareness program on Bangla QR was held for the teachers, students, officers, and staff of the University of Dhaka on 6 August 2026 at Professor Abdullah Faruque Multipurpose Conference Room of the MBA Building, University of Dhaka. The program was organized by Dept. of Accounting, University of Dhaka in association with Bangladesh Bank and Dutch-Bangla Bank.

Mr. Md Mostaqur Rahman, Honorable Governor of Bangladesh Bank, attended the program as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka inaugurated the program. Dr. Mahmood Osman Imam, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, and Mr. Md. Ahteshamul Haque Khan, Managing Director & CEO of Dutch-Bangla Bank, were present as Special Guests. The program was presided over by Mr. Md. Maksudur Rahman Sarker, FCMA, Professor & Chairman, Dept. of Accounting, University of Dhaka.

Mr. Md. Mostaqur Rahman, Honorable Governor of Bangladesh Bank, highlighted the importance of Bangla QR in promoting secure, convenient, and interoperable digital payments through a single QR code across all banks, Mobile Financial Services (MFS), and other payment service providers. He said that Bangla QR is playing a vital role in advancing a cashless economy and supporting the country's digital transformation.

Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, thanked Bangladesh Bank and Dutch-Bangla Bank for organizing the Bangla QR awareness program. He said that the initiative would help raise awareness of digital payments among students and encourage greater adoption of digital financial services.

Mr. Md. Ahteshamul Haque Khan, Managing Director & CEO of Dutch-Bangla Bank, said that digital transactions save both time and money. He emphasized that greater adoption of digital payments and a positive change in mindset would help accelerate Bangladesh's journey towards a digital and cashless economy.

The program introduced features, benefits, and interoperable digital payment system of Bangla QR to the participants. Teachers, students, officers, staff of the Department of Accounting, and distinguished guests attended the session. The event also featured a live transaction demonstration, an awareness presentation, and an interactive question-and-answer session.
