A heartfelt letter from a fifth-grade student expressing her love for music and wish to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman turned into a dream come true as the premier invited the young singer to meet him and gifted her a harmonium. 

In the letter, which she handed to one of the Prime Minister's officials during the National Primary Education Award-2026 ceremony last month, the young student wrote about her passion for music, her family's inability to afford a harmonium and her dream of meeting the Prime Minister. 

After reading the letter, Tarique Rahman invited Anushree Roy and her family to the Prime Minister's Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat, said PM's Press Secretary Suzauddhowla Sujan Mahmud.

Anushree, a fifth-grade student of Purba Nabonidas Government Primary School in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur, secured first place in the patriotic song category and third place in Nazrul Sangeet at the National Primary Education Medal-2026 competition.

She met the Prime Minister today, accompanied by her parents. During the meeting, the Prime Minister warmly spoke with the young singer, enquired about her musical pursuits and encouraged her to continue practising regularly.

To encourage her musical aspirations, he also handed over the harmonium she had requested in her letter.

Overwhelmed with joy after meeting the Prime Minister, the young singer said, "I never imagined that the Prime Minister would read my letter and invite me for a meeting." 

She said, "I badly needed a harmonium to continue my music practice, but my family could not afford one. So, I wrote everything in a letter and handed it to one of the Prime Minister's officials during the award ceremony. I never thought the letter would reach him, let alone that he would read it."

She said she was astonished when an official-PM's Deputy Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon- from the Prime Minister's Office informed her family that the Prime Minister had read the letter and wanted to meet them.

Anushree also said the Prime Minister affectionately spoke to her, enquired about her music practice and advised her to continue pursuing music with dedication.

During the meeting, she sang a patriotic song for the Prime Minister. 

Her father became emotional, saying they had never imagined that the Prime Minister would personally invite and encourage their daughter.

He said he had often told Anushree about the Prime Minister's humanitarian initiatives and support for ordinary people, which inspired her to believe that writing a letter to him might receive a response.

"Even then, we never thought the letter would actually reach the Prime Minister or that he would read it. Today, we are overwhelmed with happiness," he said.

According to Sujan Mahmud, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also met Tabiul Islam Rakib, a private security guard, on the same day.

Rakib said he had long wished to meet the Prime Minister and had earlier posted a video on social media, saying he would not leave Dhaka until that wish came true.

During the meeting, Rakib also raised a longstanding demand from residents of his area for the construction of a bridge over the Panguchi River in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat, saying it would ease the suffering of thousands of people and help prevent frequent accidents during river crossing.

Rakib, who has been working as a security guard in the capital's Kuril Bishwaroad area for the past seven months, hails from the Nurullahpur Shikdar Bari area of Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat district.
