JnU students’ demo for Convocation continue: VC called on protesters tomorrow

Students of Jagannath Universityagain staged demonstrationyesterday as continuous part to press home their demand for organizing Convocation as soon as possible.The students gathered on the campus around 1:00am on Monday and started their demonstration besieging the entry of BBA building of university.

At that time agitating students also besieged the Vice-Chencellor of the university and demanded to immediately take necessary steps for organizing convocation andwarned if their demand is not considered, they would hold a strike onTuesday boycotting their exams and classes on the university campus.Later they staged a demonstration that continued from 1:00 pm to 3:00pm.
Earlier on Sunday students also staged demo and besieged Vice-Chencellor of the university.

Meanwhile universityauthority used to give the excuse of sufficient space to organize the convocation.But students alleged that if the university administration have bona fides, only then it is possible to organize it at the central playground of the university.
According to university authority,since its establishment in 2005, around 45,000 students have completed their graduation but have been denied a convocation ceremony.Besides, several universities which were established after Jagannath University, have organized the convocation a number of times. Even National University has organized their convocation.

Akhter Hossain convenor of “We Want Convocation “blamed both the present and previous authorities for their failure to arrange the convocation.He further said “without the convocation the certificate is given. It is not expected by any students.”

Prof Dr Mijanur Rahman Vice-chancellor of the university said “We need huge space to organize convocation.we do not have sufficient space to organize it”.However,he called on protesters to sit meeting regarding the issueontomorrow around 11am.
