Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, Managing Director of the capital’s Universal Medical College Hospital, has received the prestigious ‘Global Health Award 2026’ in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the modernization of medical education, progressive hospital management and health sector. The chief guest of the event, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Yasir Khan Chowdhury, MP, presented the award to him at a grand ceremony at The Westin Dhaka Hotel in the capital on Wednesday (June 24). The event was presided over by Orthakantha and Business America Managing Editor Enamul Haque Enam. This special seminar and award ceremony was organized by the joint initiative of NRB World, Business America Magazine and Saptahik Orthakantha.

Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty has been playing a visionary role in improving the quality of healthcare in Bangladesh, ensuring ethical medical services and reforming the national health policy for more than two decades. After joining the then Ayesha Memorial Specialized Hospital in 2004, his outstanding administrative foresight and efforts transformed it into one of the leading medical education institutions of the country, ‘Universal Medical College Hospital’ in 2013. Under his skillful management, the institution has today become a large, reputable and one of the referral healthcare hubs with Universal Cardiac Hospital, Universal Medical College and Universal Nursing College. Apart from this, he is associated with prestigious national organizations like Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA) and is extensively involved in various social and cultural activities.

Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty gratefully recalls the unwavering support and guidance of his elder sister and iconic female entrepreneur Preeti Chakraborty, Chairman of Universal Medical College Hospital, behind his achievement of this milestone. In his personal life, he lives in Dhaka with his wife - corporate personality Neeta Chakraborty and his only son Divyamay Chakraborty (Riju). Dr. Ashish is the son of late Ashutosh Chakraborty and Pushpa Chakraborty of Uchalia Para, Sarail Upazila, Brahmanbaria district.

It is worth mentioning that the program featured a fruitful discussion on the main theme titled “Role of Non-Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) Scientists in Advancing Biotech and Biosimilar Drugs in Bangladesh's Pharmaceutical Industry” and the unveiling of a special commemorative book "100 Healthcare Titans of Bangladesh". The event was attended by leading scientists, policymakers, corporate leaders, and media personalities from the country's medical and pharmaceutical sectors.
