Seedlings, seeds and fertilizers distributed among farmers in Tangail

Free seedlings, seeds and fertilizers were distributed among small, marginal and medium-scale farmers in Basail upazila of the district under the government's agricultural incentive programme.

Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan distributed the incentives among the farmers as the chief guest.

The assistance was provided as part of the Agricultural Incentive Programme for the Kharif-2/2026-27 season.

The distribution ceremony was held at the conference hall of the Basail Upazila Parishad on Saturday afternoon and was jointly organized by the Upazila Administration and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE). 

The programme was chaired by Basail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Iqbal Hossain. Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Shahjahan Ali delivered the welcome address, while Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Maria Jannat conducted the event.

Among others, Begum Nargis Siddiqui, spouse of the minister, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Tangail Sadar and Basail Circle) AKM Mamunur Rashid and Acting President of Basail Upazila BNP Mamun Al Jahangir addressed the gathering.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, a total of 250 small and marginal farmers from six unions and one municipality received free agricultural inputs, including 5 kilograms of transplanted Aman paddy seed, 10 kilograms of DAP fertilizer, and 10 kilograms of MOP fertilizer each.

In addition, to promote environmental conservation and ecological balance, a total of 1,365 forest, fruit-bearing and medicinal plant saplings were distributed among 70 farmers and 49 institutions.
