BNP restored multi-party democracy: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the BNP has restored multi-party democracy and does not believe in one-party system of governance.

"We are the only party that has been fighting and struggling for democracy for the past 50 years,” he said while responding to various questions from journalists after visiting the graves of martyrs of the July Uprising in the Islampur area of the district.

Fakhrul said, "Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman established multi-party democracy, and our leader Begum Khaleda Zia established parliamentary democracy. Our leader, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, remained in exile abroad for establishing democracy.”

In response to another question from journalists regarding the Prime Minister's visit to Malaysia, the Minister said that this visit would further strengthen and solidify the bilateral relations.

“Discussions on expanding the labor market in Malaysia would get special importance, and talks would be held on reopening the labor market.”

The LGRD Minister further said that the current government has accomplished a great deal in three months and continues to work wholeheartedly for the welfare of the people. “It has already distributed farmer cards and family cards, and is providing allowances to Imams, Muazzins, and priests,” he said.

Earlier, the minister visited potential sites for the construction of bridges over the Fuldi River in Gazaria and in the Char Kishoreganj area of Munshiganj.

Later, at the Munshiganj Circuit House, he held a view-exchange meeting with local dignitaries and heads of various departments regarding infrastructure development in Munshiganj.
