Finance Minister orders influence-free implementation of Family Card

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has directed officials concerned to ensure the implementation of the Family Card programme remains free from any political or partisan influence, aiming to guarantee transparency and fairness in beneficiary selection.

The directive came at the fourth meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Family Card Distribution held today at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance at Bangladesh Secretariat.

The meeting reviewed and approved the administrative expenditure for implementing the Family Card programme. It also finalized the Family Card Piloting Implementation (Amended) Guidelines 2026 and reviewed the draft Family Card Implementation Policy, 2026 and gave approval in principle, said a Finance Ministry press release.

Speaking at the meeting, the Finance Minister stressed the importance of implementing the programme in a transparent manner, ensuring that deserving beneficiaries receive support without any political consideration.

Among others, Social Welfare Minister Prof. Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, MP, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, MP, and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, MP, attended the meeting.

Social Welfare Secretary Dr. Mohammad Abu Yousuf and senior officials from different ministries and agencies concerned were also present.

The committee discussed various operational and policy aspects of the programme and underscored the need for effective coordination among the relevant ministries and agencies to ensure smooth implementation of the Family Card scheme across the country.
