MANIKGANJ,  – A woman was killed and two others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Aricha Highway here on Sunday noon. The deceased was identified as Majeda Begum, 40, wife of Farid Mia of village Ramnagar under Mohadebpur union of Shibalaya upazila of the district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barangail Highway Police Riyad Mahmud said the accident occurred at noon when an engine driven Aricha-bound rickshaw collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Eagle Paribahan, leaving Majeda dead on the spot. Her husband Farid Mia, who was also on the same rickshaw and the rickshaw-puller were wounded.

The driver of the passenger bus managed to flee away from the spot soon after the accident took place. Police are trying to detain the bus driver along with the vehicle, OC Highway Police added.

A case was filed with Shibalaya Police Station.
