Home minister vows swift exemplary trial in Ramisa murder case

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today assured the nation that the trial in the rape and murder case of eight-year-old schoolgirl Ramisa would be completed as quickly as possible.

“We can assure everyone that the exemplary trial in the Ramisa murder case will be completed swiftly through the prompt submission of the charge sheet. However, we cannot comment on the punishment,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while responding to questions on the Ramisa case during a press briefing at the conference room of the home ministry.

He said the police have been taking the highest level of action in all heinous crimes since the BNP government assumed office, ensuring rapid arrests and investigations.

“You cannot point to any heinous crime since we took office where the matter was ignored or arrests were not made promptly,” he added.

Regarding the Ramisa case, Ahmed said the prime accused, Sohel, was arrested within 24 hours of the incident along with his wife.

He also noted that the accused had given a confessional statement before the court.
