PM opens re-excavation work of Bishwa canal in Chandpur

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today launched the 'Bishwa Canal' re-excavation works in the district as part of the nationwide river and canal re-excavation programme aimed at protecting the environment and strengthening climate resilience.

The premier inaugurated the re-excavation of 'Bishwa Canal', by cutting soil with a spade, adjacent to Ghosher Hat in Kumarduli village of Shah Mahmudpur Union of Chandpur Sadar Upazila around 4:30 pm.

Later, he planted a Neem sapling on the bank of the canal.

The Bishwa Canal runs from the Dakatia River to the southern border of Matlab via Ghosher Hat.

The inaugural ceremony highlighted long-term plans to conserve water bodies, maintain normal water flow and combat the adverse effects of climate change.

Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the re-excavation work of the Khordda canal around 2:40 pm in the Waruk Bazar area of Tamta Dakshin Union in Shahrasti Upazila in the district and addressed a public rally there.
