DHAKA  – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today expressed the hope that his party will win in the next parliament election with electoral symbol ‘Boat’.

“We won’t bow down to any unconstitutional pressure from outside and the polls will be held as per the constitution…The government will provide necessary supports to the Election Commission (EC) which can perform its duties independently,” he told the reporters after visiting the site of Sarak Bhaban construction in city’s Tejgaon industrial area.

About the tour of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to the United Nations (UN), Quader said BNP has now turned into a ‘complaining party’ and they have proved it. They will show it again it in the UN, he added.

He said the UN sends a representative to a country if any crisis is created there. But, now there is no crisis in Bangladesh. Therefore, they didn’t send any representative, he added.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said, “We don’t have any headache why they (UN) have called Mirza Alamgir…Therefore, we don’t want to make any comment now.”

He said, “We don’t know whether the UN will talk to our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about the election. They may want a free and fair election…We also want to hold a free, fair and peaceful election.”

About the proposed Road Transport Act 2018, Quader said the proposed act will be placed in the house today. The act might be passed in the current session, he hoped.

The minister said it is expected that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the 12-storey building in October. The building is being constructed with the fund of Asian Development Bank (ADB), he added.
