Mounted police unit adds splendour to Baishakhi Shobhajatra

A well-decorated mounted unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) drew widespread attention as it took part in the traditional ‘Baishakhi Shobhajatra’ at Dhaka University this morning.

The procession, which began at 9:00am, featured the mounted police contingent at the very front, where their disciplined display and ceremonial presence captivated spectators.

A total of 20 well-trained horses participated in this year's procession.

The horses, identified as thoroughbred riding horses, are specially trained for large-scale public events and are known for their agility, endurance, and controlled behavior.

Earlier in the morning, the much-anticipated ‘Baishakhi Shobhajatra’ commenced at Dhaka University amid vibrant festivity, accompanied by rhythmic drumbeats and colorful motifs.

This year's procession prominently featured five symbolic motifs - rooster, violin, dove, elephant and horse - representing strength, creativity, peace, dignity, and dynamism respectively.

Each motif reflected the deep-rooted cultural heritage of Bangladesh.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, a group of 35 musicians performed throughout the procession, while around 200 students participated carrying the national flag, making the celebration more lively and meaningful.
