Farmer Card to integrate modern technology in agriculture, change farmers’ fortune: Mahdi Amin

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Mahdi Amin today said that the main objective of the “Farmer Card” initiative is to integrate modern technology into the agricultural sector.

“Farmer Card is not merely a distribution programme but a powerful tool to directly empower farmers and introduce the agriculture sector with modern technology. The fortune of the farmers will be changed through the card,” he said.

He made these remarks while briefing reporters after exchanging views with investors in agriculture and agro-based industrialization at the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon.

Amin said that this initiative of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is not limited to just distributing a card, rather it is a powerful means of strengthening the economic foundation of agriculture-based Bangladesh.

He has announced that the program, previously declared by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, will be officially launched in Tangail on Pahela Baishakh, tomorrow.

He said that more than 20,000 farmers across 11 upazilas in 10 districts will receive the cards initially.

Each cardholder will receive financial assistance of Tk 2,500. In addition, farmers will benefit from subsidized agricultural inputs, crop insurance, government subsidies, and access to modern farming equipment.

Plans are also in place to bring farmers under regular advanced training programs.

Amin further noted that the initiative aims to ensure that government subsidies reach farmers directly without intermediaries and to guarantee fair market prices for agricultural products.

He went on saying that the programme is a part of the continued implementation of the BNP’s election manifesto and its 31-point reform agenda, aimed at empowering people across all sectors of society both socially and economically.
