Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam today said allegations of enforced disappearance could be tried under the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Act.
“The offence that fell under the enforced disappearance ordinance had already been incorporated into the ICT Act. Since the ICT Act already had jurisdiction to try allegations of enforced disappearance, I did not find it necessary to promulgate another ordinance to form a separate tribunal,” he said while responding to questions from journalists at his office today.
“The International Crimes Tribunal Act already had sufficient jurisdiction to try allegations of enforced disappearance. There was no need for additional legislation (ordinance) or the formation of another tribunal,” he added.
