Energy Ministry instructs DCs to ensure diesel supply to farmers

The government has instructed Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to ensure the availability of diesel for farmers across the country.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Monir Hossain Chowdhury disclosed this at a press conference at the Secretariat today.

He said a virtual meeting was held between the ministry and DCs of all 64 districts. During the meeting, DCs were directed to take necessary measures to supply diesel to farmers as per demand, as the country has sufficient stock.

He expressed hope that, following the government’s instructions, farmers would have uninterrupted access to diesel.
Monir said the country currently has nearly 271,374 tonnes of diesel in stock. “There is no difficulty in supplying diesel to farmers,” he added.

He urged farmers to inform the local administration if they face any difficulties in obtaining diesel.
He also said there is no shortage of octane and petrol. Fuel oil is being supplied to petrol pumps across the country as usual, he added.

Referring to the global war situation, Monir said some people may be illegally hoarding fuel. The government has continued its drive against such practices.

He added that some consumers, fearing a possible price hike, are purchasing more fuel than necessary, leading to increased pressure on petrol pumps.

Considering the sufferings of consumers, the government has not increased fuel prices, he said.

“Instructions have been given to depot authorities and petrol pump owners to maintain normal supply,” he added.
