Country’s largest Covid-19 treatment hospital inaugurated

The country’s largest 1000-bed dedicated hospital for Covid-19 has been inaugurated at Dhaka North City Corporation Market in the capital’s Mohakhali this morning. Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek MP inaugurated the hospital as the chief guest. Atiqul Islam, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation was present as the special guest.

Inaugurating the 1000-bed Covid dedicated special hospital, the Health Minister said, “Like the rest of the world, the second wave of Covid has hit our country as well.” The number of infections and deaths is alarming day by day. The ICU beds of all the hospitals in Dhaka are full in the second wave of Corona. ICU demand is increasing every day. At such a difficult time, under the direction of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, this market of DNCC is inaugurated as a full-fledged Covid Dedicated Hospital. The total number of beds for covid patients in this hospital is 1000.

There are 212 full ICU beds, 250 HDU beds, 436 isolated rooms. There are 50 emergency beds for 30 male and 20 female patients. In addition, there are RT PCR lab, pathology lab, radiotherapy center, X-ray facility and many other facilities.

The Health Minister said that the hospital has been prepared very fast through tireless work in just 20 days. At present 260 beds of the hospital are being in service. There are 60 ICU beds, 50 emergency wards and 150 general wards. Two and a half hundred more beds will be operational in the next seven days and the hospital will be fully operational by the 29th of this month.

Highlighting the need to increase the number ofdedicated beds and central oxygen facilities in every hospital in the country, the health minister said, “At present, central oxygen system has been introduced in about 100 hospitals in the country.

Work is underway to introduce central oxygen system in 34 more hospitals.” As a result, it is now possible to set up a central oxygen system in about 12,000 beds in the country. These facilities must have played a major role in saving the lives of Covid-19 patients in the country.”
Also speaking at the inauguration were Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, Health Services Secretary Lokman Hossain Mia, Director General of the Health Department Prof ABM Khurshid Alam, Adjutant General of the Bangladesh Army Major General Shakil Ahmed, FCPS Director General Generalof Medical Services, Mahabubur Rahman, Brigadier General Manjur Ahmed, HED’s Chief Engineer Brigadier General Bashir and Director of DNCC Covid dedicated hospital Brigadier General ATM Nasir Uddin.
