Jamaat Ameer pledges to upgrade Sylhet into a full international airport

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today said under Jamaat's leadership Sylhet will be upgraded into a fully functional international airport.

“The people of Sylhet, who have made significant contributions to Bangladesh’s economy, deserve enhanced connectivity. There are limitations in the airport here and currently serving limited international flights. We aim to turn it into a full fledge international airport with all modern facilities,” Jamaat Ameer said at an election rally of the party in Maulvibazar today, a party press release said.

“Jamaat will make Sylhet an international gateway, ensuring direct flights from major destinations such as Manchester, UK. This is essential for the large expatriate community from Sylhet, who contribute immensely to our economy,” he said.

Expressing his aspiration to empower youths, Jamaat Ameer said, “We want to hand over the steering of this country to the youth who will take Bangladesh forward,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to the freedom fighters who fought for the country’s independence, emphasizing the need for unity across all communities, regions, and ethnicities.

“Jamaat aims to build a peaceful and prosperous country where no citizen will be left behind,” Dr. Shafiqur said.

The Jamaat leader assured the tea workers, who are significant contribution to the region’s economy, that under Jamaat's governance, their rights would be addressed and focus would be given to healthcare and education for their children.

“I was born in the tea capital of Maulvibazar, and I will never forget the hardships of the tea workers. We will ensure tea workers’ children get quality education and healthcare,” he added.

Dr. Rahman also shared his party’s plans to support expatriate Bangladeshis. “We will make sure no expatriate worker is left unsupported. The state will take care of their families,” he assured.

Referring to the upcoming referendum, Jamaat Ameer said, “This referendum will be a vote for change, for a new Bangladesh. It is the hope of the July fighters.”

He called on the public to vote in favor of Jamaat, which promises a transformative future for the nation.

The rally held at Kulaura’s Nabhin Chandra School ground was attended by nearly 5,000 women, marking a significant moment in the region's political landscape.

Jamaat Ameer, in a symbolic gesture to introduce the 11-party alliance candidates with people, handed over the Daripalla symbol to the party nominees.
