Mithu Monir honored with International Award in United States

TBT REPORT

Monir Hossain (Mithu Monir) has been working successfully as a cinematographer in the Bangladeshi film and media industry since 2007. In addition to cinematography, he has also worked as a camera trainer and writer, through which he has earned both national and international recognition. Recently, he received an international award as Best Cinematographer at Anandamela 2025 in Los Angeles.

Besides this, he has received several national accolades, including the Television Viewers Forum of Bangladesh (TVFB) Star Award 2021 for Best Drama Cinematography, the Bangladesh Entertainment Journalists Association (BABISAS) Award 2022 for Best Film Cinematographer, and the TVFB Star Award 2022 (Tele Award) for Best Drama Cinematography.

He has worked as a cameraman for BBC and ICC sports coverage. In addition, he has earned a strong reputation as a cinematographer through his work on numerous government and private documentaries, commercials, nearly 500 single-episode dramas, and almost 1,000 episodes of drama series in Bangladesh.

He stated that awards are a recognition of one’s work and certainly provide inspiration to do even better in the future. Through his cinematography, he has visually captured various productions at international locations including the United States, Canada, London, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal, and India, earning wide acclaim.

The four respected members of the Anandamela jury board unanimously agreed that for achieving the cinematic feel of the film “Hridoy Jure”, especially across its various scenes, there is no alternative to a skilled and creative cinematographer.

Among the country’s commercial films, the cinematography of “Hridoy Jure” impressed everyone, which was entirely the work of Mithu Monir. For beautifully translating a powerful story and screenplay onto the big screen—particularly through his lighting—the jury board extended their best wishes to Mithu Monir for the film’s outstanding cinematography.

At an event held at Bagis Middle School in Los Angeles, the film “Hridoy Jure,” shot by Mithu Monir, was screened, and he was honored with an international award.

Therefore, on the occasion of receiving the Anandamela Star Award 2025, all film-related organizations of Bangladesh—including the Directors’ Association, Cinematographers’ Association, and Camera Operators’ Association—have congratulated him for bringing international recognition to Bangladeshi cinema.
