DHAKA,  – Sammilito Parishad, led by Faruque Hassan, bagged most of the post of directors in the biennial election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for the 2021-2023 period held yesterday.

With this clean sweep, the newly directors-elect are going to pick Faruque Hassan as their new president on April 16 by exercising their votes.

The results of the BGMEA polls were announced early hours of today where the Sammilito Parishad won in the posts of 24 directors out of the total 35. On the other hand, the Forum Panel, led by ABM Shamsuddin, fetched 11 posts of directors.

The winners of Sammilito Parishad panel led by Faruque Hassan will run the BGMEA for the next two years.

Earlier on yesterday, the election was held from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm at Hotel Radisson Blu in Dhaka and from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at regional office of BGMEA in Chattogram.

The BGMEA polls witnessed a voters’ turnout of 86 percent as some 1,996 RMG factory owners exercised their voting rights.

Out of the 1853 voters in Dhaka region, some 1604 BGMEA members cast their votes while out of the 461 voters in Chattogram region, some 392 voters cast their franchise.

After counting the votes, chairman of election conducting board Prof Farhat Anwar announced the results at around 1:00 am today.

Giant Textile Managing Director Faruque Hassan led the Sammilito Parishad panel while Hannan Group managing Director ABM Shamsuddin Mia led the Forum Panel in the election.

Some 70 candidates from two panels contested the post of 35 directors.

Panel leader of Sammilito Parishad Faruque Hassan won the election bagging the highest number of 1,204 votes while the outgoing BGMEA president Dr Rubana Huq bagged the 2nd highest number of votes.

The winners of Sammilito Parishad in Dhaka are: Faruque Hassan of Giant Textile, SM Mannan Kochi of Seha Design, Arshad Jamal Dipu of Tusuka Fashions, Shahidullah Azim of Classic Fashions, Sehrin Salam Oishee of Envoy Design, Asif Ashraf of Urmee Garments, Mohiuddin Rubel of Denim Export, Tanvir Ahmed of Envoy Fashions, Khosru Chowdhury of Nipa Fashions, Abdullah Heel Rakib of Brothers Fashions, Harun ur Rashid of Tiaz Garments, Razib Chowdhury of Young Forever, Miran Ali of Misami Garments, Khandaker Rafiqul Islam of Design Text Knitwear, Imranur Rahman of Laila Style, Nasir Uddin of Sadma Fashion Wear and Sajjadur Rahman Mridha of Vintage Denim.

Forum panel winners in Dhaka are: Outgoing BGMEA president and managing director of MG Shirtex Limited Dr Rubana Huq, MA Rahim of Dulal Brothers, Mahmud Hasan Khan, Asif Ibrahim of New Age Bangladesh, Faisal Samad of Surma Garments, Navidul Huq of MG Knit Flair, Vidia Amrito Khan of Desh Garments, Enamul Haque Khan of Ananta Garments and Mizanur Rahman of Febrica Knit Composite.

Sammilito Parishad winners in Chattogram are: Syed Nazrul Islam of Well Designers, Tanvir Habib of Legacy Fashions, AM Shafiul Karim Khokon of ASR Apparels, M Hasan Jacky of FOUR H Apparels, M Ahsanul Haque of Amco Febrixor, Rokibul Alam Chowdhury of HKC Apparels, Mohammad Meraj e Mostafa of NLZ Fashions.

The Forum Panel winners in Chattogram are: M Mohiuddin Chowdhury of Clipton Apparels, and Mohammad Abdus Salam of Chattogram Asian Apparels.

The newly directors-elect will pick the new president, one senior Vice President and six Vice Presidents on April 16.

The new office bearers would take over their charge on April 20.
