Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Representing Bangladesh at the 21st Session of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) General Conference and Global Industry Summit 2025 in Riyadh has been an empowering milestone in the journey of youth leadership and global engagement for Ifrat Hossain, a young Bangladeshi voice on sustainable development and industrial innovation.
Invited by UNIDO Director General Mr. Gerd Müller, Hossain’s participation at this high‑level gathering spotlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to inclusive industrial progress and the meaningful inclusion of youth in shaping global development agendas. The summit, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 23–27 November 2025, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, innovators, and civil society from around the world to discuss strategies for sustainable industrial transformation.
A defining moment came with Hossain’s honourable meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, whose diplomatic leadership continues to strengthen the country’s global footprint. Hossain also engaged with Ambassador Toufique Hasan of Bangladesh to Austria and Ambassador M. Delwar Hossain of Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia, whose guidance enriched his experience and deepened his insight into international cooperation.
In Riyadh, delegates were welcomed by His Excellency Bandar bin Ibrahim Al‑Khorayef, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, who provided keynote leadership throughout the conference’s thematic discussions on innovation, investment, and sustainable industrialization. Minister Al‑Khorayef emphasized the Kingdom’s evolving role as a catalyst for global industrial transformation under its national vision, reinforcing the importance of collaborative partnerships among governments, the private sector, and civil society.
The summit’s agenda spanned several thematic pillars, including investment and partnerships, gender equality in industry, and youth inclusion. A significant focus was placed on advancing women’s leadership and empowerment in industrial sectors, a highlight that drew the attention of global delegates and underscored the importance of equality as a driver of economic innovation.
Hossain’s engagement at the summit provided a platform to elevate youth perspectives on critical issues such as employment, empowerment, and participation in global decision‑making. His presence underscored the growing role of young leaders from the Global South in global governance spaces traditionally dominated by senior policymakers and institutional actors.
“Stepping into this global forum was not just an honour but a deep responsibility to voice the aspirations of Bangladesh’s youth,” Hossain said. “This experience fuels our ambition to contribute more meaningfully toward sustainable industrial development and equitable progress for future generations.”
The 21st UNIDO General Conference concluded with the adoption of the Riyadh Declaration, a forward‑looking framework designed to guide international cooperation in sustainable industrial development, innovation, and inclusive growth for the coming years.
Hossain’s participation in this summit stands as a proud moment for Bangladesh highlighting the nation’s active role in global dialogues on innovation and sustainability, while also shining a light on the transformative power of youth engagement in shaping the future of industries worldwide.
