Prothom Alo, Daily Star editors given armed protection: Jahangir

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the editors of the Prothom Alo and The Daily Star have been given gunmen for their protection.

"Gunmen have been given to protect the editors of the two national dailies, while security at their residences has also been strengthened," he said.

The Home Adviser made the remarks today while briefing reporters today after the 18th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order and on security preparations for the Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUCSU) polls.

He also said that 17 people have been arrested in connection with the Thursday's attack on the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star newspapers.

Emphasizing the government's stance, Chowdhury said the authorities are fully committed to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order across the country.
