Tree plantation campaign to make Sonar Bangla green : Minister of Environment

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said the government is working to make the country’s living nature green. To convey this message to the people, this year’s National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2021 will be celebrated under the theme ‘Mujib Barshe Angikar Kori, Shonar Bangla Gare Tuli ‘. We will be able to fill the country with greenery through the joint participation of people from all walks of life.

The Environment minister made the remarks while addressing a pre-preparatory inter-ministerial meeting to mark World Environment Day and Environment Fair 2021 and National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2021 at the conference room of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Thursday (February 25).

The Environment Minister said trees are being planted at a massive rate across the country for tackling the adverse effects of climate change, conserving biodiversity and alleviating poverty, creating employment, socio-economic development and environmental development. With the approval of the Prime Minister, the two programs of World Environment Day and Environment Fair and National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair will be inaugurated on June 5 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center and Tree Fair in the field of International Trade Fair. At the inaugural function, checks will be distributed among the beneficiaries of social forestry including Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation 2020, Prime Minister’s National Award for Tree Planting and National Environment Medal 2019 and 2020.

The Minister said a discussion program on the subject would be organized on Bangladesh Television and other electronic media and special supplements would be published in national dailies. Banners and hoardings will be erected at significant places in the city in addition to extensive publicity to motivate the people about the tree plantation campaign. Drawing and Essay Writing competitions will be organized among the students to highlight the importance of environmental conservation and tree plantation

Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Begum Habibun Nahar, Secretary Ziaul Hasan NDC, Additional Secretary (Administration) Mahmud Hasan, Additional Secretary (Development) Ahmed Shamim Al Razi, Additional Secretary (Environmental Pollution Control) Md. Moniruzzaman, Director General of the Department of Environment Dr. A, K, M Rafique Ahmed, Chief Conservator of Forests Amir Hossain Chowdhury and senior officials of various ministries were present.
