Chief Adviser inquires about Nur's health: Press Secretary

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has talked to Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur over phone to know about his health condition, and assured that the highest standard of medical care will be ensured for him and others injured in an attack on Friday.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said this at a press briefing in front of the Chief Adviser's official residence, Jamuna, here this afternoon.

He said the Chief Adviser also directed that Nur be sent abroad for advanced treatment, if necessary.

Shafiqul Alam said Nur is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). A special medical board has been formed to oversee his treatment, he added.

Besides, the press secretary said, the government has decided to launch a judicial inquiry into the attack, which will be conducted under the leadership of a High Court judge.

The press secretary noted that Nur has long been known as a student leader and an influential figure in democratic movements.

"His leadership and courage are symbolic of the country's struggle for democracy," he said, adding, the Chief Adviser extended his sympathy to Nur, other injured persons, and their families.

Professor Yunus assured them of the government's fullest support during this critical time.

Responding to a question from a journalist, Shafiqul Alam firmly said: "There is sufficiently conducive environment for holding a free and peaceful election. The national polls will be held before February 15 next year."
