Samsul Islam, a senior reporter of Nayadiganta, received the Courageous Journalist Award on Sunday afternoon for his courageous and positive role in carrying out his professional duties from July 1 to August 5, 2024, during the July 24th mass uprising.
Information Advisor Mahfuz Alam presented the award as the chief guest, organized by the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust.
Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, was the special guest. Muhammad Abdullah, Managing Director of Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust, presided over the program. Chief Information Officer of the Directorate of Information Md. Nizamul Kabir, Director General of the Directorate of Mass Communication Faizul Haque, Director General (DG) of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Faruk Wasif, among others, were present at the time.
Samsul Islam is working in the Secretariat Bit. He is the General Secretary of Natore District Journalists Association, Dhaka. In addition, he is working as the Treasurer of Shipping Reporters Forum (SRFB).
From 2008 to 2012, Samsul Islam worked as the Rajshahi University correspondent of the daily Naya Diganta. Since 2013, he has been working in the Secretariat Bit, the heart of the country's administration, in Dhaka.
For the past 15 years, he has been working for human rights through direct participation in various anti-fascist programs, writing in newspapers and on social networking sites.
