The Department of Japanese Studies of Dhaka University (DU) and Japan Embassy in Bangladesh have jointly organized the ‘Study in Japan Seminar’ virtually today 24 January, 2021 at DU for guiding Bangladeshi students to get a Japanese Government Scholarship. Japanese Ambassador Mr. Naoki Ito was the chief guest of the seminar while Chairman of the Department of Japanese Studies Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun presided over it.

Japanese Ambassador Mr. Naoki Ito said, many Bangladeshi students have pursued higher education from Japanese universities and they are now playing a vital role in Bangladesh to enlighten the bilateral relations between Japan and Bangladesh. Bangladesh and Japan have been enjoying friendly relations for many years. Japan supports Bangladeshi students for study in Japan even before the Liberation War. Over the last 74 years about 42000 students took their higher education in Japan. Japan will continue this opportunity for Bangladeshi students to study in Japan in the days to come. This is very important for strengthening bilateral relations of the two countries, Ambassador added.

Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun has encouraged the Bangladeshi students to pursue the MEXT scholarship since it is highly prestigious comparing all other scholarships across the world. In this renewed relationship between Japan and Bangladesh, a considerable amount of Japanese FDI is coming and students having a Japanese degree will get ample opportunity to work not merely in academia but also in Japanese companies.

Two distinguished alumni of Japanese universities— Dr. Jahangir Alam and Dr. Hafiza Khatun, have shared their experience of studies in Japan. Dr. Kaosar Afsana, Education Advisor, Embassy of Japan, has detailed the guideline for achieving Japanese Government Scholarship—Monbukagakusho, popularly known as Monbusho. Mr. Shiblee Noman, Lecturer of the Department of Japanese Studies of DU has conducted the seminar.
