Sub-registry offices ready to be taken over by Land Ministry: Land advisor

Adviser to the Ministry of Land Ali Imam Majumder today said that the ministry is ready to take over all the sub-registry offices in the country.

"There has been a process to bring the sub-registry offices under the Land Ministry for a long time. The Public Administration Reforms Commission recommended in this regard. Although these are basically under the Law Ministry, the Land Ministry is ready to accept them," he told BSS at his office here.

Ali Imam said, "We only need to include our work circumference in the cabinet. Because the sub-registry offices will actually come with manpower, we agree to manage it."

Regarding various complaints about land officers and employees at the field level, the land adviser said, it happens as everyone doesn't know all land-related laws and there are some complications too.

"In some cases, the laws are not very user-friendly in all areas. So, some mistakes are made in this case. And some of our dishonest officials and employees take advantage of this. We do not or cannot supervise them properly," he continued.

Ali Imam said there may be complaints as land officers work with very grassroots people but the complaints may not be true in all respects.

Still, if there is any complaint against land officials that anything wrong happens with any service recipient, immediate investigation will be done and action will be taken, he said adding: "If there is an opportunity to redress the complaints, we try to provide the redress."

The government is not thinking of creating a separate complaint cell at the police station or upazila level for that because at the upazila level, complaints can be made to Assistant Commissioner (LAND), Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), and even to the Deputy Commissioner, he said.

"Besides, we have a telephone helpline where people can file complaints 24 hours a day," he further said.
