The government is taking largest project ever for better environment : Environment Minister

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Mr. Shahab Uddin said the government is working tirelessly for a better environment with the pace of urbanization and industrialization. The largest transformational project ever taken on environment Conservation named Bangladesh Environmental Sustainability and Transformation (BEST) is going to be developed with the help of World Bank to make a great difference in the quality of environment we are facing now. The project would play a vital role on the improvement of overall environment including Air Quality, Water Quality, and Waste Management in the country.

The Environment Minister as the chief guest said this Thursday, 14 January 2021 in the Inception Workshop on Preparation of Bangladesh Environmental Sustainability and Transformation (BEST) Project held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

The Environment Minister said the development of this transformational project will also help strengthening the capacity of the Department of Environment and other relevant agencies. The investment activities under the project will be climate sensitive, adaptive and mitigative to climate change. The BEST project will address burgeoning environmental problems with a comprehensive and integrated approach of investment.

The Environment Minister said with the active participation of the development ministries like local government, industries, communication and health and other associated ministries and agencies, the BEST Project will be implemented successfully. The Minster with support from the World Bank, the government will be able to create the highly desirable outcome of living in healthy environment. He said the project activities such as reducing the problems of air pollution, water pollution, wastes and institutional capacity development will help for the betterment of our environment of the country, as well as, well-being of our people.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Ziaul Hasan ndc presided over the workshop. Whereas Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Begum Habibun Nahar, Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division Moron Kumar Chakraborty; Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Md Jafarullah; Additional Secretary of Health Service Division Kazi Zebunnesa; Director General of the Department of Environment, Dr A.K.M. Rafique Ahammed; World Bank Senior Environment Specialist Jaing Ru and Suiko Yoshijima were present among others.
