Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day observed in Khulna

KHULNA,– The historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed today here in a befitting manner. On January 10 in 1972, Bangabandhu returned to the independent and sovereign Bangladesh after over nine and a half months’ captivity in a Pakistan jail.

Khulna city and district units of Awami League and its associate organizations observed the day with different programmes. Marking the Day, AL leaders and workers hoisted national and party flags atop its office and placed wreaths at the sculpture of Bangabandhu on the Khulna Press Club premises.

They held a discussion meeting highlighting the life and works of Bangabandhu along with his contribution to the nation’s War of Liberation.

Khulna district AL president Sheikh-Harun-ur Rashid chaired the meeting and some front-ranking leaders including president and general secretary of city AL Talukder Abdul Khaleque and MDA Babul Rana, district unit general secretary advocate Sujit Adhikar, spoke on the occasion.

A Milad and doa mahfil was also held at the party office seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members killed on August 15, 1975.

Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering Technology (KUET) and others educational institution organized different programmes to mark the day.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of KU Prof Dr Md Fayequzzaman placed wreath at the mural of Bangabandhu on KU campus premises.

KUET organized a virtual seminar at its auditorium with VC Prof Dr Kazi Sazzad Hossain in the chair. Prof Dr Sayed Anwar Hossain, Bangabandhu Chair of Bangladesh University of Professionals joined the seminar as key speaker

Meanwhile, Khulna Press Club (KPC) organized a discussion meeting on its premises to mark the day.

Chaired by KPC President S M Zahid Hossain, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Journalists Mokbul Hossain Mintu, Sheikh Abu Hasan, Mahbub Alam Sohag, Mallick Sudhangsu, Sayed Abdul Matin, Shah Alam, Nur Hasan Jony, Mahbubur Rahman Munna, Maksud Ali, Asaduzzaman Reaz, Rakib Uddin Pannu and Sunil Das.

Earlier, KPC leaders laid wreaths at Bangabandhu sculpture on the Khulna Press Club premises. Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) also observed identical programme as its president Mahbub Alam Sohag chaired a discussion.
