DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), managed to settle in the positive zone on Tuesday as buyers extended their interest in certain scripts by capitalising on the recent corrections.
The key index DSEX gained 8.36 points and closed at 5,199.30. The blue-chip index DS30 closed at 1,894.68 points (+0.23%), the Shariah-based index DSES at 1,163.92 points (+0.15%), and the large-cap index CDSET at 1,043.86 points (-0.21%). Large-cap sectors posted mixed performance on the day.
Market turnover also increased by 22% to Tk 4.1 billion as against Tk 3.4 billion in the previous session.
Meanwhile, volume increased by 18%, and turnover increased by 22%. 12 sectors out of 19 were the gainers, and 7 were on the losing side. Of the 395 scripts traded, 182 advanced, 138 declined, and 77 remained unchanged.
ORIONINFU topped the turnover chart. SALAMCRST was the top gainer, whereas SUMITPOWER was the top loser. In the block market, shares of Tk 21.6 crore were transacted, representing a turnover of 5.25%.
The SME index, DSMEX, decreased by 7.66 pts, and the market generated a Tk3.2 crore turnover, a 5% decrease from the previous session.
According to the Royal Capital Financial Portal, SQURPHARMA and BRACBANK contributed the most to the gains and the losses of the DSEX index today, and bullish conditions prevailed in the market from the start.
In its daily market commentary, the EBL Securities said that the market opened on a positive note, pulling the benchmark index to an intraday high of 5,217 points as buyers continued to take positions.
However, selling pressure later eroded the initial optimism, dragging down the benchmark index to an intraday low of 5,195 points. Finally, buyers returned to rescue the market, leading the benchmark index to extend its gaining streak for two consecutive sessions.
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also witnessed a positive session today. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) increased by 22.1 points and 35.1 points, respectively.
