TBT DESK: The government on Tuesday approved separate proposals for procuring one cargo LNG, 50,000 tonnes of wheat, and 60,000 tonnes of fertiliser to meet the growing demands of the country.
The approval came from the 9th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year held today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure one cargo LNG from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, London, Meyrin-Geneva Branch, Switzerland from the spot market under the DPM method with around Tk 787.99 crore where per MMBtu LNG would cost $16.43.
In response to another proposal from the Ministry of Food, the government would procure 50,000 tonnes of wheat from M/S Aston Agro-Industrial SA, Avenue de la Gare 33, CH-1003, Lausanne, Switzerland with around Tk 180.07 crore where per ton wheat would cost $295.21.
Following two separate proposals from the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, UAE under the 3rd lot for the current fiscal year (FY25) with around Tk 159.82 crore where per ton fertiliser would cost $436.67.
The BCIC would procure another consignment of 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from KAFCO, Bangladesh under the 13th lot for the current fiscal year with around Tk 150.24 crore per tonne fertiliser costing $410.50.
