"Online tax return for corporate houses from next year"

NBR Chairman urges businessmen to shunmindset of availing tax exemptions

The country's private sector company will be able to submit their tax returns online from next year, which will significantly reduce their difficulties, said Md Abdur Rahman Khan, chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
NBR chief made the announcement on Sunday at a dialogue titled "Policy alignment to enhance the trade and investment climate" organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) at a five-star hotel in the capital.
Besides, Abdur Rahman Khan made the announcement while speaking at a seminar on World Customs Day-2025 held at the Multipurpose Hall of the NBR in the capital's Agargaon area on the day.
The NBR Chairman said that online return submission has gained growing popularity till today, as some 12 lakh taxpayers submitted their returns through this system.
He hoped that by January 31, 2025, the last day of the income tax return submission by individual taxpayers, it would be around 14 lakhs.
NBR Chairman also urged all concerned including the business community to shun the tendency to avail only tax exemptions in the name of expanding businesses.
"But the online return submission will not be stopped. People can submit their returns 365 days of the year," he said.
Rahman, however, said that the tax calculation up to January 31 would be different than the submission beyond January.
"Automatically the taxpayers who will submit their returns after January 31 will have to bear some burden," he said.
The NBR Chairman hinted that the rate would be two percent extra over the tax amount for each month. "The maximum ceiling is 24 months, and we will not take any interest over 48%," he said.
