Japanese Ambassador calls on DU VC

Japanese Ambassador Mr. Ito Naoki called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman today October 28, 2020 at the latter’s office of the university. DU Treasurer Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and Senior Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Yasuhiro Kawazoe were present on this occasion.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest and exchanged views regarding the ongoing joint academic and research activities at Dhaka University in collaboration with Japan and JICA. Japanese Ambassador Mr. Ito Naoki said, we are interested to further strengthen our mutual cooperation with DU and take it to a new height. He informed the Vice Chancellor of DU that JICA would send Japanese volunteers to teach Japanese
Language at the Institute of Modern Languages of DU. Besides, a seminar under the 'JICA Chair' project will be held at Dhaka University early next year marking the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-Japan Diplomatic Relations, DU Centenary and the Golden Jubilee of Independence of Bangladesh. He also informed the Vice-Chancellor that Japanese students would like to pursue their higher studies in Bangla Language and Development Studies at Dhaka University.

The Japanese Ambassador sought cooperation from DU VC in these regards.

DU VC Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman assured him of providing all possible cooperation and said, Japan is our major development partner and a friendly relation has been prevailing between the two countries for a long time. Furthermore joint collaborative academic and research activities between Dhaka University and leading universities in Japan would foster our existing friendly relationship, he added.

Senior Representative of JICA Kawazoe Yasuhiro informed DU VC that JICA's support and cooperation to Dhaka University would continue and expand in new areas in the days to come.

DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman thanked the Japanese Ambassador for his visit to and keen interest to provide further cooperation to Dhaka University.
