BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said, as per the instructions of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman, the party leader and workers have been engaged in humanitarian work in the flood-affected areas from the beginning.
He made the remark while talking to journalists after visiting the flood victims at Lakshmipur Poura Ideal College here at around 12pm this afternoon.
"BNP is working to rehabilitate the flood victims with utmost importance and effort. The initiative will continue until the rehabilitation is completed. They (BNP leaders and workers) have been instructed to stand by the flood victims always," he added.
When asked about the agreement on fair share of water with India, he said, "We want our fair share of water according to the international law. If people elect BNP as the government, we will settle the matter with mutual interest and respect from our side. The people of Bangladesh have been waiting for a solution to this issue for ages."
During his visit, Khasru spoke to the victims and inquired about their health and requirements. Necessary items, including clothes and food, were distributed on behalf of the party among the distressed.
Advisor to BNP Chairperson Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Member Secretary of Laxmipur Zilla BNP Sahab Uddin Sabu, Joint Convener Advocate Hachibur Rahman, Members Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan and Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, Sadar Upazila BNP Convener Main Uddin Chowdhury Riaz and Lakshmipur Municipal BNP convener Mahbubur Rahman Liton were present, among others, during the visit.
