DINAJPUR, – A court here today sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2015 in Birganj upazila of the district.

Judge of Dinajpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Sharif Uddin Ahmed handed down the verdict to Robi Saren, 27, hailed from Mougram village under the upazila.

According to the prosecution, Robi Saren raped a 10-year-old girl at his house on September 2 in 2015. Local people held Robi and handed him down to Birganj Thana Police as the girl screamed for help.

Following the rape, the girl’s father Madon Mahon Rao filed a case under Women and Children Repression and Prevention Act with Birganj Thana accusing Robi.

Testifying witnesses and evidences, the tribunal gave the order this afternoon in presence of Robi. The judge also fined him Taka 10,000, in default, he would be jailed three months more.
