Durga Puja preparation going on in full swing in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, – Preparation for celebrating the forthcoming Durga Puja, largest religious festival for the Hindu community, is going on in full swing in the district.

Secretary of Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad, Jamalpur district unit, Siddatha Sankar Roy said people of the community are passing their busiest
days with the works of decorating and painting idol and puja mondaps ahead of their festival.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Nayeb Ali said Durga Puja will be celebrated in 213 puja mondaps in the district this year.

Durga Puja will be celebrated at 61 puja Mondaps in Jamalpur Sadar upazila while 45 puja mondaps in Sarishabari, 25 in Madarganj, 27 in Dewanganj, 19 in Islampur, 21 in Melandaha and 15 puja mondaps in Bakshiganj upazila.

District Administration disbursed 106.5 metric tonnes of rice among the puja Mondaps. President of Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad, Jamalpur district unit Prodip Kumar Shom said due to corona pandemic Hindu pilgrims will visit the puja mondaps wearing musk and will maintain social distance to prevent coronavirus infection.

The festival will begin from October 22 and conclude on October 26.
