Renowned photographer Shahidul Alam has been taken back to Detective Branch of Police office Wednesday afternoon following his medical tests at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

He was taken to the hospital around 8:45am on Wednesday, said the university hospital director Brigadier General Abdullah Al Harun.

A medical board was formed for Shahidul Alam’s treatment and the board found him in ‘satisfactory good health’, Harun told reporter.

Shahidul did not require hospital admission, he added.

The university hospital conducted his medical examination as per the directives of the High Court, which on Tuesday directed the government and the inspector general of the police to immediately ensure health examination and treatment of Shahidul, Harun said.

The award winning photographer alleged on the court premise that he was tortured at the police custody before he was presented before the court on Monday.

Harun, however, did not give direct answer when asked if there was any mark of torture on Shahidul, saying, ‘We did not find anything unusual’.

Soon after an interview to Al Jazeera, award-winning photographer Shahidul Alam, who was critical on the government in the interview, was abducted by unidentified men on Sunday night.

The Detective Branch of police on the next day admitted that they picked him up for interrogation and he was placed on seven-day remand in police custody in a case filed under Information and Communication Technology Act.
